Costume rental
Fonden Gamle Sønderho has an extensive collection of the characteristic Sønderho costumes, which until the 1950s were worn by women in Sønderho as a natural part of everyday life. Today, the tradition lives on when the costumes are worn on Sønderhodag and on other festive occasions.
It is possible to rent a costume through the Foundation all year round. To do so, simply send an email to info@fondengamlesonderho.dk, after which you will be contacted by a member of our costume committee.

The prices apply to everyday and festive costumes, widow’s costumes, children’s costumes, and men’s clothing.
As a general rule, the costume committee selects and combines the skirt, costume, and shawls within the requested costume category, as they have extensive experience and knowledge of historically accurate combinations.
Especially in connection with Sønderhodag, it is not possible to accommodate individual requests regarding the selection. We hope for your understanding and trust in the professional judgement of the costume committee.
Descriptions of the Sønderho costumes can be found in a booklet costing 25 DKK, available at Lorenzens Butik.

CHILDREN OF THE LOT AND
THE "LITTLE" BRIDESMAIDS
Since olden times, it has been a long-standing tradition for girls and boys to sell raffle tickets in the week leading up to Sønderhodag in support of the preservation work of Fonden Gamle Sønderho.
Dressed in the beautiful Fanø costumes, the children walk around in small groups in both Sønderho and Nordby. In this way, special friendships are formed, often lasting well into adulthood. In the evenings, many of the raffle-ticket children gather at Sønderho Forsamlingshus, where they receive lessons in Sønderhoning and Fannik together with the adults.
Many of the children dream of becoming such skilled dancers that, when they turn 18, they are allowed to dance on Møllebanken during Sønderhodag as part of the wedding party. Over time, this tradition has meant so much to the children that families have often felt “obliged” to plan part of their holiday in Sønderho during this very period.
